Aloha!
Earth is truly a magical place and mother nature really shows off in Hawaii, especially in Maui. Although, it only takes a few hours to drive around the entire island, there are different vegetations from the jungle to flat land around the island. The road to Hana is a winding road along the west side of maui with a lot of magical stops along the way. You can truly disconnect from the outside world, literally you’ll loose phone signal but this allows you can truly immerse yourself in Hawaiian culture. It is honestly a must-do if you are visiting Maui.
The best advice I could give about the road to Hana is to purchase the gypsy guide app for $5, it’s like having your personal tour guide and it works even when you loose signal. It can be very overwhelming deciding where to stop and exactly how to get to the sites but the Gypsy Guide makes it super easy and lets you focus on the drive. There are a lot to see and I learned that unless you stay in Hana is it nearly impossible to see everything, so try to fully enjoy each stop that you make.
The road to Hana begins in the town of Paia.
Paia is a very quant, very cute town with local boutiques that are more upscale than the shops at Lahaina, perfect for finding one of a kind souvenirs.
Coconut stand
- After leaving Paia, we stoped at the first coconut stand that we saw, I couldn’t wait to try a fresh coconut, and I was not disappointed although I did see more appealing fruit stands further ahead.
Twin Falls
Twin falls is the first waterfall on the way to Hana and probably to easier to arrive to and the only one we saw people swimming in. There is a huge sign just before arriving to the twin falls and a very convenient parking lot, so there was a lot of people.
Magical Findings
Along the short walk to the twin falls, we were greeted with a sign that said “Aloha, Respect the land, leave only footprints” and we found a tiny pineapple happily growing.
Rainbow eucalyptus forrest.
Along the drive towards the left side there is the most amazing trees on earth Rainbow Eucalyptus! Although, these trees look as if they are painted on, they are all natural.
Breathtaking Views
Every few miles we felt a need to stop and soak in the amazing views.
Halfway to Hana
By the time we reached Halfway to Hana convenience store we were ready for another snack. I had the most amazing snow cone in my life. It was coconut flavor and had vanilla ice cream at the bottom. (Insert mouthwatering emoji) seriously it was amazing. I also recommend getting a Banana Bread!
Nahiku Marketplace
The Nahiku Marketplace is the perfect place to eat lunch. There are several food trucks, a coffee shop, and gift shop.
Fruit Stands
Along the Road to Hana there are several fruit stands, some have people managing the fruit stand and other don’t. That’s right, they had fresh fruit, a price tag, and a basket where people can pay for the fruit that they take.
Waiʻanapanapa State Park
Our last stop in the road to hana was the Wai’anapanapa State Park, where you can find the famous black sand beach, caves, and more breathtaking views.
The Road to Hana was such an amazing and unforgettable experience, where I learned that sometimes the journey is a lot more important than the destination. Read more about my trip to Hawaii Here
