Every year, I like to reflect on the past year- the successes, the challanges, the memories, and the lessons learned- using some kind of template. This year, I signed up for Glitter Guide’s intention and goal setting email series and it was really helpful in reflecting on the year, understanding my values, and setting my 2020 goals and intentions.
Through the email worksheets I learned that in 2019 I grew a lot in confidence, self-love, and courage. I became so much more confident at work- taking more initiative and leading projects. I grew in self-love by being kinder to myself when I make a mistake and by taking better care of myself. I also grew in courage so much by traveling and sightseeing alone in New York City.
After refecting on my year, I defined my values as:
- Creativity– Being creative fullfills me and brings me so much joy
- Joy– When looking back at my year- I valued the memories that brought me joy the most, but they don’t necessarily have to be big events- like a vacation, but small events like video chatting with my little sister.
- Connection– As an introvert, I value connections with others. I enjoy nurturing friendships but also meeting and connecting with new people.
- Independence– Being independent and self suffient is something that I have worked for, and now that I am fully self-suffient, I really value my independence.
- Growth– I’ve realized that growth is a life long process and a daily habits process. Growth for me can take all sort of shapes, sometimes it can be a promotion or a raise, but it can also be internal growth like self-love, confidence, or courage.
It was so helpful to understand my values before setting my intentions for the year. Something else that was super helpful in working though Glitter Guide’s email series was creating a strategy and plan of action for how I will complete those goals throughout the year.
My 2020 goals and intentions
- Create from joy
- Whether it is creating blog posts or social media content, I want to create from a place of joy instead of from a place of peer pressure, perfection, or commitment. I want to create valuable, helpful content with the goal of bringing myself and other people joy.
- Cultivate habits that promote self-love
- This is a continuation of my intention from last year, I want to cultivate habits like taking my vitamins daily, drinking more water, and working out regularly because they not only help me feel better but also it’s a way to love myself.
- A few ways that I’ll work on this intention is by keeping a water tumbler at my desk, doing yoga every Sunday, and setting an alarm to remind me to take my vitamins.
- Be more present
- Two of the most important people in my life are having big events in 2020- my little sister, Ashley is having a quinceanera and my best friend, Marisabel is getting married! I want to be fully present and make sure to enjoy their special moments with them.
- Create a curated closet
- This is a goal that I began working on last year, after attending a panel on how to build a capsule wardrobe. I felt so inspired to evaluate my closet and buying choices and then I began being more intentional about buying only clothes that I love, fit well, and that matches the rest of my clothes. I will be writing a blog post about my experience and tips soon.
What are some of your goals and intentions for 2020? I’d love to know.
