Planning a trip somewhere is one of my favorite things to do. Discovering cute places to visit and planning out my time there brings me so much joy and makes me so excited to explore the city! I am planning a trip to San Diego and sharing the process that I use to plan tips using Instagram, Google Maps, and Pinterest.
- Search travel hashtags
- Treat the Instagram search bar similar to google and search for common hashtags like #visitsandiego, #sandiegotravel, to find what other people are posting.
- Search Geolocations
- Once you find a cute picture through a hashtag, click on the tagged geolocation and continue searching through posts.
- Create a new collection
- Keep all of you saved posts in one place by creating a collection or folder for that city.
- Search for local bloggers
- By searching hashtags and locations, you may find posts from the same account, which may be a local blogger. A lot of local bloggers have created content for their specific city and you can usually find it in the blog or in their story highlights.
Google Maps
- Create a map of stared places to visit
- After searching Instagram and Pinterest, I save each location by clicking the save button and adding the location to a new list. Another option is to create a custom map with layers for restaurants, sightseeing, and coffee shops. Create a custom map by selecting “Your Places” > “Maps” from the navigation bar. Creating a list or a map is so useful in planning out how to spend your days because you can easily plan to visit a specific location on one side of town and plan to eat at a restaurant nearby.
- Find travel guide blog posts
- Pinterest is the ultimate social media tool to find places to visit during your trip. Try searching for common queries like “Things to do in San Diego” or “Where to eat in San Diego” to get you started. Once you find a great pin of a travel guide, look in the related pins section to find similar posts and continue curating places for your trip.
And that’s how I plan a trip using Instagram, Google Maps, and Pinterest. Let me know if you have any questions!
