Last weekend, I traveled to Denver, Colorado to attend my little cousin’s Quinceañeras. For those not familiar with Quinceañera’s (Quinces for short) it is a Hispanic tradition of celebrating 15 years of age for women, it is also a very religious tradition that includes going to mass to pronounce your faith and is followed by a long night of dancing. The birthday girl wears a princess like dress (traditionally white) has a court of dames and chambelanes who rehearse a dance for a few weeks before the party to perform in front of everyone. During the party, the Dad dances with her daughter and a doll is given to her, it’s really quite a unique experience. If you’d like to learn more about the tradition of a Quinceañera there is a really good podcast episode on LatinoUSA.
During our time in Denver, apart from spending tons of time with my extended family, I visited the Seven Falls in Colorado Springs, Strolled Downtown Denver, and visited Manitou Springs.
Downtown Denver
Saturday morning, we woke up extra early to try and beat the morning crowd at Snooze, a popular chain restaurant that started in Denver. We decided to visit the one inside the train station, unfortunately, we still had to wait an hour for a table but got to peruse the farmer’s market and pick up some delicious peach jam.
I had the bella bella bennie with a side of AMAZING sweet potato pancakes.
Manitou Springs
About an hour away from Denver, is a quaint mountain town of Manitou Springs. While my brother and dad climbed the famous stairs, my mom, sister, and I strolled downtown Manitou Springs visiting shops with a delicious ice cream.
