Maybe it’s their love of wine, cheese, and bread that makes the French “pique-nique” look so romantic and dreamy. As a self-proclaimed Francophile- french picnics are on top of my list of things that I admire the french for. While it may be a while before I am able to visit France, having a french inspired picnic is perfectly attainable no matter where you live.
The location
Begin by picking a nice shady spot in a pretty park, lawn, or even in your backyard. If you live in Austin, there are a lot of beautiful parks to have a picnic at like Mueller Lake Park, Zilker Metropolitan Park, or Auditorium Shores at Town Lake. Mueller Lake Park is one of my most favorite parks and it is where all of these pictures were taken.
The Essentials
A french inspired picnic wouldn’t be complete without cheese, a baguette, and flowers. I bought everything including this amazing pre-made cheese and fruit platter at my local central market, it’s one of my favorite grocery stores. I also bought a baguette from the bakery, sparkling lemonade, and flowers. Don’t forget to pack a blanket!
Dress the Part
A great straw hat does wonders in creating a dreamy atmosphere paired with a delicate dress it exudes french vibes. I love this baby blue striped dress from the Gal Meets Glam Collection which I wore with matching espadrilles. I packed everything in my Vera Bradley daytripper backpack in the itsy ditsy print- which is one of my favorites.
That’s it- with a few essentials, you can feel like you’re in Southern France having a lovely “pique-nique.” Happy Picnic-ing!
P.S. If you’re a fan of afternoon tea, I wrote a post on how to experience afternoon tea without visiting London.
