Podcasts are one of my most favorite things to listen to when I am doing pretty much anything. I love the convenience of learning something new, being entertained, and being inspired when listening to a new podcast. With May being Mental Health Awareness Month and the uncertainty of the future- I thought I would share a few podcast episodes to feel better and are super helpful in learning how to challenge your thoughts, focus on positivity, and ease some anxiety.
1. Tips to help you cope with an uncertain future by Life Kit
Life kit by NPR is a daily podcast with practical advice on overall life and “adulting”. I really liked this episode because people who have experienced uncertainty share their best tips and coping mechanisms. My favorite tip was the “stop should-ing yourself”, which is the idea that saying that you should be doing something other than what you are doing is causing you to have extra stress.
2. Laurie’s Personal Tips by The Happiness Lab
This podcast is hosted by Yale professor Dr. Laurie Santos, who has spent years studying happiness. In this episode, she is interviewed and gives her best personal tips to feel better, and live a happier life.
She teaches “Psychology and the Good Life,” at Yale and the online class version is actually FREE at Coursera! (I already signed up to take it)
3. Brené on Anxiety, Calm + Over/Under-Functioning Unlocking Us with Brené Brown
Brene Brown is one of my most favorite authors, who studies vulnerability and braveness. One of my favorite episodes of her new podcast is about over/under-functioning in stressful situations. She explains the difference between the two traits and shares a vulnerable story where I learned so much about myself.
4. Sugar Calling
If you were a fan of Dear Sugar Radio, you’ll love Sugar Calling- hosted by Cheryl Sandberg, author of Wild. In this free-flowing conversation, you’re a fly on the wall as Sheryl catches up with old friends, professors, and authors on how they are coping. It’s so comforting to hear an older generation how they are getting through things.
5. Se Regalan Dudas
Hosted by Ashley Frangie y Lety Sahagún, this podcast is in Spanish and they along with guests explore super important topics, like self-love, self-acceptance, relationships, friendship, and more. Ashley and Lety feel like older, wise sisters that I wish I had growing up.
I am by far not an expert on mental health, but I learned really good strategies and advice from these episodes. Hope you’re feeling happy and at peace!
