San Miguel De Allende is a pueblo magico, (Magical Town) a term that is given to communities that have maintained their original architecture, traditions, history, and culture. In my opinion, it’s pretty magical. It has small-town charm with cobblestone streets, blooming flowers everywhere, intricate architecture, delicious food, rooftop bars, and friendly people. One of my favorite parts of the trip was to walk around and peek into each door, welcoming you to outdoor cafes, shops, and restaurants. Scroll down for my San Miguel de Allende Travel Guide with what to do, where to eat, and say.
Where to Stay:
- Hotel La Casona– this is the hotel where we stayed and we had a really good experience. The hotel is a bit far from downtown ( about a 20 min walk) but we didn’t find it inconvenient
- Rosewood– we ate here twice and I fell in love with how beautiful it is. If we go back to SMA, we definitely want to stay here.
- Hotel Matilda– located on Calle Aldama, a block away from the Parroquia, this boutique hotel is super conveniently located and has great reviews.
Where to Eat:
- Lavanda Coffee– a super popular cafe serving lavender lattes and brunch. Because of the limited seating, the wait time can be a lot- especially on the weekends. I recommend just grabbing a lavender latte to go and enjoy brunch somewhere else.
- Panio- a cute bakery/brunch place, there are a few of these located around San Miguel.
- 1826 Restaurant – inside the Rosewood hotel, we had a delicious breakfast
- Luna Tapas Bar– located on the rooftop of Rosewood hotel, this rooftop bar has an amazing view of the town that includes the Parroquia
- Quince Rooftop Bar– Rooftops are super popular in San Miguel De Allende and Quince was one of the most recommended.
- Churros and Chocolates San Agustin– the best place to grab a churro and a must-try. Located right by the Parroquia
- The Restaurant– a beautiful restaurant with great dinner
What to Explore:
- Hot Air Balloon Ride– Globo San Miguel offers hot air balloon tours every morning depending on the weather
- Local Markets- a neverending market where you can find artisanal products and
- Downtown Cathedral- The parroquia de San Miguel is breathtaking and a must see
- Callejon del Chorro- a secluded walkway with beautiful views of the street as well as
- Doce 18 Concept– a super cool boutique hotel with shops, cafes, and casual eateries.
Hope this San Miguel De Allende Travel guide was helpful! There are so many beautiful and unique places in Mexico, like Tulum.
