It is the last day of 2018, and as I look back at 2018 I can’t help but think that it was the most challenging year of my life, but with all of those challenges came growth and strength. Here are a few things that I learned this year:
I learned take care of someone other than myself.
At the end of Summer, 2018, I got a puppy- a cute Shih Tzu named Rory. I vividly remember meeting her for the first time and falling in love. The first few months of puppy training were so hard, but I kept reminding myself that it was only temporary and she will eventually be trained. She is now 7 months and although she still has accidents inside and doesn’t always listen to me, she has brought so much joy and happiness into my life.
I learned to love learning and meeting new people.
In 2018, I attended so many networking events, blogging conferences, pop-up markets and loved absorbing all of the knowledge. And although it is very nerve-wracking, I love meeting new people and listening to their story. I also graduated from a year-long digital marketing post-grad program and celebrated a one year of working at a great digital marketing agency with a promotion.
I learned to love myself
2018 began with my long distance boyfriend breaking up with me because he could no longer do long distance. Aside from a few failed dates, I spend the majority of the year single after a few months….happy. Living alone and being single, meant that I spent a lot of time alone and I learned to love myself. To love my quirks, my flaws, my habits because as cliche as it sounds how can I expect someone else to love me if I can’t love myself. I also learned that loving myself is a process that you cultivate as is every relationship- family, friends, and significant others.
What I want to learn in 2019
- Learn how to be a better public speaker. One of my dreams is to host a session at a conference and think that the first step is to get better at public speaking.
- Learn how to not let self-insecurities or fear hold me back from following my dreams.
- Learn how to enjoy the everyday moment as much as I do when I am traveling.
I’d love to know, what did you learn in 2018 and what are you hoping to learn in 2019?
May 2019 be filled with hope, happiness, and peace for you all.
